Does it matter?

Currently, Australia's current Prime Minister Scott Morrison is open and unashamed of his Pentecostal faith. He has spoken at many Christian conferences, namely the Hillsong conference in Sydney. Yet it's interesting that this forms the basis for not-so-subtle judgement of his ability to undertake his political responsibilities. At every opportunity, certain areas of the media mention that he is an Pentecostal Christian and the name of the church he attends, ensuring that secular Australia remains very much aware of his faith.

Makes me wonder though. Why was a previous Prime Minister's atheism not reported on quite so much by media outlets? Does a lack of faith make someone more equipped to fulfil political positions?

It would be nice if he were judged on his ability and capacity to fulfil his role as Prime Minister independent of his faith. Would be nice if the idea of meritocracy was returned to places of employment....

Weekly Word 59 - response to Koraly Dimitriadis' opinion on sex for children.

In response to the 'outrage' regarding the newly-released Sex For Children book, Koraly Dimitriadis writes that simply because children have the ability to access countless hours of pornographic material, they should read this book. I repeat myself when I say I have no idea why these people want 10-year-olds to learn how to perform blowjobs.

Weekly Word 58 - Yumi Stynes, Dr Melissa Kang, and Big W want to teach sex to children.

Big W, popular department store in Australia, has decided that a book encouraging children to participate in sex, written by Yumi Stynes and Dr Melissa Kang, should be on their shelves. I will never understand why these people think that children ought to be taught explicit sexual content, tips, and techniques.

Make the logical and coherent argument to me that children need to be shown and taught this.

Weekly Word 57 - Pride: a Christian teacher fired, 12 year olds changing gender, and gay penguins.

One of the more strange weeks in Pride Month 2023.

A teacher in New Zealand was deregistered for refusing to use the so-called 'preferred pronouns' of a student.

Children as young as 12 are able to change their gender on their birth certificate without any treatment whatsoever.

And apparently penguins are gay, and they're great role models for teaching children as young as 6 about sexuality.

What a week.
